Apple’s tablet: high-end graphics, several models
It seems the Apple Tablet rumors are circulating again, a new report suggests the hardware will include a high-end graphics card to produce a picture with “stunning resolution.”
In a recent article CNN speculates that the Apple Tablet is going to appear within the first quarter of 2010 and is said to be a magazine sized touch screen device with a screen size between 10″ to 12″ using a high-end graphics card that will enable stunning resolution and is a cross between the Apple iPhone and a OS X computer. Some industry analysts are predicting that it could be the one device that outshines all other handheld devices by allowing users to watch movies, read eBooks, surf the web and listen to music on a portable device larger than the iPod, but smaller than a laptop.
Laura DiDio with ITIC, provided supposed specifics on the hardware in her report, she said the device will sport a “high-end graphics card” that will offer picture at a “stunning resolution” which is greater than the iPhone and iPod touch. She also stated in report that the device will come in “several different models,” suggesting that a 3G-enabled version would be tied to a contract with a wireless carrier such as AT&T. The report said “Any time Steve Jobs gets on stage, the expectations are incredibly high, but they are especially lofty for the tablet,” and “Analysts and investors are saying that this device could revolutionize the handheld world in the same way the the iPhone changed the smartphone market”. DiDio also said that Apple’s successor will include a Web cam that will allow simple mobile video conferencing.
Analysts surveyed said that the device will “kill” single-function devices like the Amazon Kindle by offering books, Web browsing, gaming, entertainment and on-the-go computing.Walt Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal has also stated recently about the belief that the device will serve as a general-purpose device.Analyst Gene Munster with Piper Jaffray has predicted that the hardware will sell about 2 million units in its first year.
The rumors go on to speculate that the device will debut with a price point between $600.00 USD and $1,000.00 USD, but since Apple isn’t talking about a tablet device then one can only guess what such a device would be priced at.An official announcement could come as early as February 9 – 13 at the 2010 MacWorld conference in San Francisco.
